Sunflowers can grow to be several feet high. Soaring to as high as 16 feet tall, these giant beauties are always trying to get their vibrant petals closer to the sun. The sunflowers that grow the tallest usually have big single stalks with large brown centers that connect to golden yellow petals. Solar flares (sun flares) are a sudden explosion of energy caused by tangling, crossing or reorganizing of magnetic field lines near sunspots. Sunspots are areas that appear dark on the surface of the Sun. They appear dark because they are cooler than other parts of the Sun’s surface.
